Innovative Solutions for Wave Measurement

Features & Benefits ~ Applications ~ Specifications ~ Brochure

An advanced upward looking instrument for measuring waves at Continental Shelf depths.

Collecting wave data in coastal shelf regions presents many challenges:
Depths up to 225 meters ice forces extreme wave conditions
Severe weather conditions ice forces
Extreme wave conditions ice forces
Strong currents ice forces
Marginal ice zones ice forces
Exposure to vandalism ice forces
Heavy vessel traffic ice forces
These challenges are easily resolved with the ASL Wave Profiler, offering a safe and reliable approach to obtaining wave data from the comparatively safe and calm conditions of the ocean bottom.

The Wave Profiler has evolved from ASL's Ice Profiler, an upward looking sonar instrument successfully used for measurements of ice keel drafts.

Features and Benefits

  • Operational in depths up to 225 meters
  • Competitively priced
  • Robust, easily deployable design
  • Excellent horizontal resolution using a high frequency (420 Khz) transducer with narrow (1.8 degree) beam width
  • Immense data capacity and integrity capability provided by on-board flash E-PROM data storage (64 Megabytes)
  • Ability to measure instrument tilt with an accuracy of +/- 0.5 degrees
  • Provides very linear sensor characteristics eliminating the challenge of errors in tracking steep waves or very long swell-waves.
  • Longterm power supply provided with an Alkaline D cell battery pack
  • Includes software for computation of significant wave height, peak periods and autospectral.
  • Optional serial data output available for real time monitoring via underwater acoustic modem.

Applications

  • Siting, environmental studies and onsite monitoring of Off-shore Oil Platforms
  • Dredging & Sediment Transport studies
  • Design of Coastal Structures
  • Research oceanography
  • Bridges & Causeways
