Features
and Benefits
- Competitively
priced
- Demonstrated
reliability and accuracy. Instrumentation and data recovery over
95%!
- Well
developed software and processing packages including training
available to maximize benefits extractable from the large volumes
of recorded data.
Immense
data capacity and integrity capability provided by on-board flash
E-PROM data storage (2-Gbytes) combined with low power consumption
enabling instrument to be deployed for two or more years;
- Excellent
horizontal resolution using a high frequency (420 kHz) transducer
with narrow (1.8 degree) beam width.
- Multi-phase
deployments to accommodate seasonal changes in ice conditions.
- Enhanced
sampling options (integral multiples of 1 second) providing accurate
establishment of sea levels essential to indentification and measurements
of open water, thin ice and detailed ice topography.
- Ocean
wave monitoring capability.
- Versatile
PC-based software for deployment planning and initialization,
instrument testing and downloading of stored data
- Robust,
easily deployable design

Recent
Projects and/or Clients Using the Ice Profiler
Beaufort
Gyre Freshwater Experiment (WHOI)
Monterey
Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI)
- A custom
version of the Ice
Profiler
will be mounted on the MBARI AUV and used to measure ice draft
while the AUV is underway underneath the ice. Deployment was in
the Arctic. The
Ice
Profiler
will be used to produce scientific quality ice draft measurements
and also to locate appropriate locations for the launch of the
AUV data transfer buoys which will transmit data via the ARGOS
satellite.
Marathon
Oil/EXXON
- To support
the design and operational planning for offshore oil and gas activities
off the northeastern coast of Sakhalin Island in the Russian Federation,
an ongoing program of ice keel draft and ice velocity measurement
is being conducted. The program was expanded to include Ice Profiler
derived wave measurements.
Institute
of Ocean Sciences (IOS)
- Originally
developed by IOS in collaboration with ASL, an updated version
of the Ice Profiler has been used to obtain ice data from
the Beaufort Sea.
Bedford
Institute of Oceanography
- As part
of a study on the effects of ice forces on the Confederation
Bridge between Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.
University
of Hawaii
- For scientific
research in Antarctica examining ice draft, presence or absence
of ice in conjunction with sediment studies.
University
of Hokkaido
- For ice
climate research in the Sea of Okhotsk
Woods
Hole Oceanographic Institution
- Scientific
research studies in Antarctic shelf areas.
